Including Healthy Meats in your diet

Eating meat can substantially boost the rate at which we build muscle. Meat and meat products are good sources of protein and other valuable nutrients which are all essential to our health and well-being. The meats we usually eat include beef, pork, poultry and fish. For most of us, these items tend to taste better than others but there are a couple of setbacks; meat products contain cholesterol and unhealthy fats which contribute, to many diseases, especially in the heart and cardiovascular system. Not all meats are unhealthy though; there are healthy meats which provide sufficient amounts of protein with the least amount of fats and cholesterol, a good combination of taste and nutrition.

Some examples of healthy meats:

  • Turkey– Who would have thought that the staple dish during thanksgiving is also one of the healthy meats to eat?Turkey, like other white meats, has less fat and cholesterol content. A 110 grams serving only contains 119 calories and 1 gram of fat. No wonder this bird is hailed as one of the top 5 healthy meats by nutritionists and dieticians.
  • healthy meatsChicken – Chicken is probably the most popular white meat and among the most loved, not only because of its taste but also because of its versatility in terms of cooking and preparation. As one of the healthy meats to eat, 1 piece of boneless and skinless chicken breast only contains 116 calories and 3.2 grams of fat. Eating chicken can meet our required daily protein requirement minus the fat and cholesterol.
  • Beef – Beef is also one of the healthy meats, which is low in fat content but high in protein. Eating this red meat is one of the effective ways to build muscle, especially for those who want to build muscle fast.  A 110 grams serving of beef contains 36 grams of protein, 5.1 grams of fat and 136 calories.
  • Lean Pork – Lean pork completes our list of healthy meats. Eating lean pork doesn’t only reduce calories; it is also one of the ways to build muscle. A 100 grams serving of cooked lean pork contains 30 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat and 190 calories. Lean pork also contains essential B vitamins, iron, zinc, phosphorous and magnesium, important for various physiologic processes.  Lean pork is a good dietary source for people who want to build muscle fast.

Though they’re considered healthy meats, eating these products must still be done in moderation. Consuming sufficient amounts balances your diet and make you healthy.
